If no one is critical of what you're doing - are you busy with something meaningful?

Let's be honest. Critical people suck. It sucks to be around them. It sucks to be them. They probably don't even like themselves.

Haters will see you walk on water and say it's because you can't swim.

While walking to the beach last month during our holiday in Namibia, I came across this quote outside a pizza place in our neighbourhood.

"Haters will see you walk on water and say it's because you can't swim."

At first, I didn't get it, and I had to stop and re-read it again. Once I got it, it stuck with me for the next few days.

I love it when something triggers reflection. When something that appears simple, has much more depth and meaning than you were expecting.

In life - there will always be critics. No matter what you do. And that's exactly what the quote is saying.

It might be easier to understand, by looking at some examples:

  • If you start your own business - they say it's because you cannot follow orders
  • If you exercise 5-7 times a week - they say it's because you have an addictive personality
  • If you stand up for yourself - they say it's because you're high and mighty
  • If you skip the party to study - they say it's because you're boring
  • Etc.

It takes ZERO effort to be a critic

Let's be honest. Critical people suck. It sucks to be around them. It sucks to be them. They probably don't even like themselves.

It takes ZERO effort to be critical of what someone else is doing and it's much easier than actually doing something yourself. Don't be a critic. Be a doer.
